TitleAdvanced Integrated Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) with Restorative Therapies RT300 and Xcite2

Part 2: Clinical Applications for Stroke and Multiple Sclerosis

Abstract: Part 1 of this series focused on the theory and application of FES for individuals with neurological injuries, demonstrating the role of FES in promoting mobility and reducing secondary complications after spinal cord injury. Part 2 expands on these concepts, highlighting individuals with stroke and multiple sclerosis. The instructors will demonstrate the role of FES in enhancing function, improving participation in the home and community, and quality of life. They will also explore the role of FES as a neuromodulatory technique for reduction in spasticity and tone. Participants will gain an understanding of home and clinic motorized and task-specific FES systems that support Activity Based Therapy (ABT) interventions to enhance function and promote neuroplasticity.

Speakers:

  • Colleen Connaughton, PT, DPT
  • Laurie Magerfleisch, PT, DPT
